Welcome to World of Fitness

Boxing
It is widely accepted that Boxing “ticks all the boxes” for young people engaging in the sport. This includes:

•    Discipline
•    Weight Control
•    Respect
•    Social Inclusion
•    Trust
•    Confidence Building
•    Self-Control

World of Fitness (Bateson’s ABC) is the most successful competing gym in Leeds and one of the most successful in Yorkshire. Our boxers regularly represent England and the County, winning numerous major amateur titles. Two of our boxers recently competed for England and won the Silver Medal in the European Schoolboy Boxing Championships, which is certainly testament to the quality of the coaching we provide. Our young boxers are hopefuls for the 2012 Olympics and all are members of the Amateur Boxing Association.

Working in partnership with local youth service providers, schools, colleges and health networks, we offer all young people the opportunity to participate in this sport. We take pride in recognising and developing talent whilst also helping young people reach their full potential. Our Boxing club has produced, and will continue to produce, young people with exceptional talent.

We have never “excluded” any young person from our club for any reason and will continue to adhere to this principle. We are committed and dedicated to enhancing the lives of young people, whatever their circumstances or ability.

A Senior Academic from Trinity & All Saints is employing the experience and skills of our boxing coaches to conduct a major new study into the impact of using boxing as a vehicle to engage excluded pupils with normal day-to-day activities.

Martial Arts
Martial Arts classes are particularly popular and available to anyone from the age of 8.  Martial Arts disciplines encompass all of the benefits gained from participation in other contact sports. We offer grading and will continue to introduce competitive opportunities to those participants who wish to take advantage and demonstrate recognised talent.

Football
Football is a national obsession and World of Fitness is proud to be able to offer a variety of Football opportunities. Our professional coaches have a wealth of community experience, both in the UK and in the USA.  They provide training and coaching to young people from the age of 4 years. Our team is able to offer tailored outreach initiatives for schools, colleges, health authorities and community projects alike.

Cheerleading/Dance/Hip-Hop/Street
Our team of experienced and highly qualified dance instructors are committed to developing programmes that enable participation at every level of ability.  Although we place specific emphasis on fitness and fun, we also coach talent for performance and competition.  For example, our young Cheerleading team recently participated in a fashion show at the Hard Rock Café in Leeds, and enjoyed every minute of being on stage and performing for the public.

General
We will continue to develop and deliver innovative and dynamic activities that engage with and benefit all sectors of the local community, young and old. We aim to maximise the potential for overcoming the health and fitness challenges facing today’s society.

Conversion to Learning
We have a dedicated Conversion to Learning Centre that has been generously donated by The GMB. The Centre offers access to PC’s, printers, the internet and email enabling access to free training opportunities to anyone 16yrs plus visiting World of Fitness. This has proved to be a popular addition to our facility.

Coaching, Mentoring, Leadership and Vocational Training
The World of Fitness team of instructors and coaches offer young people additional coaching, mentoring, leadership and vocational training opportunities at both the full-time fitness centre in Burley, Leeds and from satellite sites in schools, colleges and community centres across the region. We have developed training programmes to expand this aspect of our organisation, ensuring that we are able to continue increasing the number of available places. Working in partnership with local schools, we engage with excluded or disruptive students helping to get them back into full time education or training.  This is an exciting time for World of Fitness and we are continually looking to develop the ways in which we can contribute towards the long-term benefits of health and fitness for individuals who feel disenfranchised and the community as a whole.

Any school teacher, head of PE, extended services co-ordinator, community worker, parent or young person wishing to participate in our vocational, training, mentoring or coaching programmes, or if you are interested in hiring our studio or wanting us to run sessions at your premises please, in the first instance call 0113 288 3261 for further information.
